Was wondering what is going on with Whistler's Miss? She hasn't raced since before July 2.

Thanks in advance for any additional info.

Whistler's Miss prefers St. Pete to Tampa. She is currently on R & R for the summer and will start schooling again when the season returns to Derby Lane.

She is doing well and enjoying her summer vacation.

So, is there much difference between Derby Lane & Tampa?

I would have expected them to be similar, given the dogs transfer back and forth between the two. Or is that the wrong assumption?

Tampa and St. Pete are different tracks. Just like each baseball stadium is slightly different.

Tampa tends to favor early speed sprinters, while St. Pete allows Late Speed closers to do well.

Orange Park & Jacksonville are the same way.

It is not uncommon at all, to see a greyhound drop 2-3 grades at one track, and then upon switching back to that dogs preferred track, it quickly moves back up in grade.

Very interesting! Are the stretch runs longer at one track versus the other? And are the turns steeper at one versus the other?

any and all of those things could be true.

Some stretches are longer, some turns are longer, some are more banked, some use more clay than sand, some have a different sounding/looking lure..... anything different can cause a positive/negative change in the way a grey races.

I would have thought Miss would have liked Tampa. She was vulnerable in the long ST Pete homestretch. She is not an especially fluent turn runner, so it could be that she might not have looked too smooth on the Tampa turns. At Any rate, she had a rugged Derby Lane campaign.....thinking in terms of racing careers, it might not be a bad idea to rest her now. Hope she is back at the farm, galloping in the fields, and getting a nice vacation.

Schooling at Derby Lane resumed on Aug 26.

Missy finished first in her race and had the second fastest time of the day.

Sure looks like she enjoyed her vacation and the new track surface.

Wishing her a very successful year.

Whistlers Miss is headed to Wheeling!

Despite her terrific record there, she was not really suited to the Derby Lane oval with its long stretch. With her blazing early speed she should be much better suited to the shorter run-up to the turn and shorter stretch at Wheeling Downs.

The fact that WD pays more than Derby Lane should benefit SEGA.

She won her first schooling race in a very nice time:

Whistler's Miss 67 7 1 1 5 1 5 1 3½ 30.07 Commanding Lead, Ins
