What happens when a track cancels racing due to extremely bad weather (for a prolonged period)? The flooding at Wheeling and the recent hurricanes in Florida made me think of this.

How do the kennels survive? Do the tracks give them anything in lieu of race winnings?

No, Angela....not to my knowledge....fortunately, the kennels at Wheeling are well-compensated for their efforts and their greyhound's exploits, and are likely much more able to sustain downtime like this, than kennels elsewhere might be. Betty probably will like the R&R, anyway.

Any word on when the tracks may re-open?

Hi - good to see you here! Smile

I called Wheeling the other day, and they hope live racing might commence on 6 October - but they did warn that was provisional depending on how fast the work happens. I put something about it on our front page.

I don't know about the Florida tracks.
