Can someone tell me what a 'special performance' is? Also, what does the large # sort of in the middle at the top of each greyhound's information mean (8, 10, 7/2, 5/2, etc)?

I'm referring to programs from the Woodlands, where Marbles' littermate, Simba Umgowah races.

Although I don't have a Woodlands program and have never seen one, the large numbers seem to be something akin to "morning line" odds.....which is what the track handicapper might estimate their betting odds should be. Not sure about "special performance", unless it is a chartwriter's comment in the greyhound's performance in a previous race.

Hello Laurie

I follow the dogs at the Woodlands! The numbers you mention are as Rock said, the estimated betting odds.

Special performance relates to races on a day or a time when they don't normally race. There's a 'special performance' tomorrow (Monday) for Labor Day - normally the Woodlands doesn't run on Mondays. I think there won't be regular racing on the Wednesday due to Monday's 'special'.

Monday's card should be a good one to watch, with the next round of the Kansas-bred Survivor (featuring WW Apple Jax amongst others), and Always Prosper is due to run too, following her return to winning ways on Friday night!

Simba Umgowah is a Woodlands 'veteran' but still running Grade A!

I'll be watching today, if I can get onlineracing to work.

We went to the Woodlands (our first time at the races) a couple wknds ago. Had a great time--we both teared up during the first couple races. They are just so amazing! We met Marbles' (and Simba's) trainer Kathy Hastings while we were out there. I've been in touch w/her off and on since we adopted Marbles over two and a half years ago and it was nice to finally meet her. She was really happy to see him!

We're going to go back soon since it's just a three hr drive for us from O'Fallon (west of St. Louis).

Hope you were watching Laurie - Simba won his race!!

The Woodlands is a nice track - I hope to get back there too someday. I support Full House Racing's dogs - they are in a close contest with Heartland for the most wins this year!
