There will be a lot of questions in this thread I hope you don't mind and that they all make sense.
1. If I was to contact the NGA by email would they be able to confirm tattoo numbers for a hound through email or would I need to call them on the phone?
2. I have been doing some searching on racing records and see an abbration of SM for one track. What is the name of this track and what state is it located in?
3. I noticed a thread posted by Coach about Mandys Choo Choo. She was hand sliped. I think I understand that she wasn't placed in the boxes and the owner/trainer just let go of her collar. During hand slipping is the lure used to get the hound to chase it around the track?
I think that is all of the question I have right now. Thanks in advance.

1. Call them up - it is very easy for them to look up your dog and tell you the tattoo number. I did one today and was on the phone for about 30 seconds . The number's 785 263 4660. I've always found them to be very helpful.
2. SM - can't think what track that is - will see if I can find out, unless someone answers this first.

In response to your numbered questions:
1. I would call on the phone because it is more direct. You don' t have to wait for an e-mail response before posting your next question.
2. Perhaps "SM" stands for St. Croix Meadows in Wisconsin which closed in the early '90's.
What is the name of the greyhound you are researching? Others may be able to assist you better with more specific nformation about the hound.

That was the track I was thinking of, the others didn't seem to fit. The two races I'm looking at date back to July 1998.

I contacted Martin (Jcsperson) because I was looking for a hound by the race name of SS Tootsie. I'm pretty sure that was her racing name. He was able to find SS Tootsie in his stud books. The SS Tootsie I'm looking for was born in August 1996. Martin found an SS Tootsie born in August 1996; so that must be the same hound. .
The issue right now is the litter number tattoo. Tootsie only has a three digit litter number tattoo. Martin wasn't able to confirm the tattoo number for the litter. So I want to find out her correct litter number tattoo since their seems to be two different numbers floating around for the same litter. SS Tootsie has the litter number 698 in her ear. Then on greyhound data (thanks Martin) her brother has a litter number of 59881. So I guess my only option is to call the NGA to see what the correct litter number is and confirm this is the SS Tootsie I'm looking for. (I hope this makes sense)! Unless other people on here has access to records with tattoo numbers that would be great.
Concerning the track question, Tootsie's one littermate raced at the track with the SM abbration. I'm just trying to figure out the name of the track for the friend I'm helping out. She is the one who adopted the SS Tootsie in question.

When a dog is hand slipped the lure is still used. The dog will is usually slipped about halfway between the starting box and the first turn.
If you ever get an opportunity to do this it is a thrill to feel the dog's excitement as they hear the lure approach.Sometimes it is difficult to hold onto them. You need to hold one arm under their belly and the other on their collar.
Please feel free to ask any questions. We are lucky to have some good experts on call.

"SM" stands for SEMINOLE, which WAS in Castleberry, FL (east coast) It closed around 2000.
The old St. Croix Meadows, was "ST"

I still think calling the NGA is your best bet. The stud books which Martin referred to do not have litter nor individual registration numbers. The NGA has that information. Good luck!
