I thought the term "stud master" was used to describe the person who cares for studs, collects their semen and stores it, also supervises live mating with the studs he/she cares for, etc. The NGA owners of studs lease them to a stud master for this specialized care and the stud master's farm is thus termed a "stud farm". Is this incorrect?

My understanding is the same as yours. In many cases the studs are owned by the farm and/or studmaster.

That's the essence of it. Studmasters are also expected to be up on pedigree trends so that clients with broods in season know which sire lines are working with their bloodlines.

Why then did Rockingship describe Larry Birnbaum as a "stud master"? Somehow ,I just don't see Larry collecting sperm on a regular basis!

Sperm Sperm Sperm Sperm Sperm

Hmmm, he did say that - I can't explain further as I have no idea what Larry gets up to! LOL

(Just to clarify, this was mentioned in the first RFA newsletter that was emailed out to people who said they wanted to receive it.)

Larry is the owner of Craigie Whistler, of course, and the promising stud Seegold Big Red. Larry doesn't actually stand these dogs himself, Kevin Dalton does, but I think Dennis was loosely applying the turn to Larry as the owner of stud dogs. He has some very nice dogs at the track right now that could become sires as well.
