There was a veritable explosion of posts over on Global Greyhounds. It sounded like a grand affair. I'm glad so many folks got to meet one another. Grin

I was fortunate enough to attend this event and it was just overwhelming. Everyone that I spoke to had a lot of good things to say regarding the Race for Adoption project. It was greyt to see sooo many people passionate about the same thing. Dennis really gave a lot of information during his presentation and brought a lot of people up to speed. I think it is wonderful that this project has kept its momentum and that more and more people are learning about it.

We arrived shortly after noon, and Bob was already there. I was unaware that Bob knew of the devilment that Penny was up to.....and Bob had been really worried that somehow I wouldn't be able to make it. So Bob met us at the front entrance, and he and Mike Woods (Quills West) already had a table.....we ran into Penny and Steve Alford....who set us up on the chow line....Bob and Mike had finsihed eating, and they graciously allowed Mrs Rock and I to sit down...but I wasn't very hungry....then Bob showed me the program, which had the races titled for Martin, Larry and myself. Surprise!

We knew we would be expected to speak later on, so it was time to enjoy the races and mingle----we looked for Steve Schlachter and Mark Adams, but couldn't find them right away.....as the races went off, we gratefully accepted our trophys, and the track announcer did a fantastic job of pumping up the jam on RFA.....and then Steve and Mark Adams arrived on the scene, with Brent Weeks (greytguy), Fred Fulchino and some of the other reg'lars.

Bob and I walked down to the trainers room to see old bud Bill Nihan, who runs the Adios Kennel there. It was great seeing him again....I'd like him to do an "Arm Wrestling For Adoption" night sometime....though Billy is a slight, thin man, he is wiry and amazingly strong----and can beat almost anyone in arm wrestling.....we could put up $100 against any challenger, and almost be assured that Billy would win the $100 for adoption. It was greyt seeing Billy....always been one of the good guys.

Then I rounded up Mrs Rock, and we went to listen to the talks, by Cynthia B, Joan Belle Isle, and finally Bob, myself and Fred.

Several people were enthusiastic about the RFA project, and made it a point to say so in person. About then, I had the pleasure of meeting Lisa (Greytmomof#3) and her husband....I got the feeling that Lisa really enjoyed the whole experience-----she lookeed like a veteran railbird, watching the dogs race.

Joan Belle Isle was especially enthusiastic, and I certainly appreciated that she said so----both in her fine presentation and to me personally. I had brought along a printed copy of one of my racing stories (in case I couldn't think of anything to say, I figured I could always read it to the audience, if worse came to worse)....and since Cynthia Branigan was kind enough to complement me on the "Master Chee" tale----which I think she mentioned Paul Lepkowski read over the phone to her-----I gave her the story I had on my person, to read.

As the day's racing wound down, everyone started to break off, and go about the rest of their day.....Heather (Mrs Rock) and I went into the adoption kennel and made the acquaintence of several lovely greyhounds, and then, after finding Bob again, and thanking Penny....we were off. We heard that a PA group took 8 adoptees back with them.

There was a lot of positive energy in the air, as far as I was concerned. We had a greyt time.....
